I'm sure that everybody in the world who has news access has heard about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Personaly i think it is horrible what can happen in the world. I was asked a question in my geography class, what effect did the disaster in Japan have on the U.S.? I didn't have much of and answer, but when we all put our answers together we had come up with so many things. From some of the tsunami hitting california, to radiation getting into the water in 16 of the states, all the way down to car companys losing specific car models and paint pigments. The debate in the class was weather we should help them by sending workers and money and things like that.
Another interesting thing is how all the people who wright the news need to get their facts straight. I compared two newspapers from the same morning from two differents sources that i wont mention. They were posted within the same hour of eachother, same kind of story, exept for one thing. one of them or the other one didnt have their facts right. One article said there was only one dead, while the other one said there where over 1,000 dead. Most articles now have agreed on the same amount of deaths. I don't know the exact number but i know that it is crazy high.
What I wish would happen is people from the U.S. would go over there and help out or send money or resourses or something. I do understand that there are people who are doing this but I just wish that more would participate. I also want to find a way for me to help out. I think the school should hold a fund raiser were we can donate money or food or supplies, just something and we get rewards for it to encourage us to help the people in japan. I want to take a group of people and go over there to help with the clean up and help rebuild the cuties and donate food and things to get them back on their feet.
Another thing we talked about in our class was who should help them or if they even needed help. Most of the talking was about either china helping them out since they are so close, or them helping themselves out, after all they are a pretty strong country and not all of it was hit. They have a lot of resources and people to help out. But if we helped them out we may be releifed of some of our trillions of dollars of debt to them. That accually may be what most americans want to do, it may have them paying less taxes.
Some detail on the earthquake, tsunami, and aftershocks. The earthquake hit about midday and it was origionaly rated a 8.9 earthquake on the richter scal. after all of this stopped, the earthquake was rated a 9.0 on the richter scale. for those who dont know much about earthquakes and the richter scale this is a pretty serious earthquake. The aftershock was almost as bad as the earthquake itself. The tsunami was pretty amazing as well. it completely took out the shoreline and everything along with it. It took out shipyards, oil rigs, fisheries, etc. Overall this thing was pretty devastating, it killed many people and it destroyed many shorline cities. This has effected the people of japan majorly and we need to help because in the long run it will help us as well. Leave a comment below and tell me what you think about this and what you want to or would do if you could to help.
